Dementia Awareness Week

Dementia Awareness Week

4th of February, 2021

Dementia Action Week 21st to 27th May 2018

With Dementia Action Week taking place between Monday 21st May and Sunday 27th May 2018, we thought it was important to put together some information for those people who are recently processing news that a loved one has been diagnosed with Dementia. At Delta Care, we understand you will be worried about Dementia and the steps that should be taken in terms of diagnosis and future care.

Last year the week brought together a number of different Dementia related charities and organisations, with thousands of events raising over £100,000 to be used to improve Dementia care, increase understanding and to help find a cure. The 2018 edition is hoped to be even bigger, with greater awareness and funding reached. More information on Dementia Action Week can be found on the following link https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/DementiaActionWeek and keep a look out on our Facebook page to see how we are supporting the week too. https://www.facebook.com/DeltaCarePreston/

What is Dementia?

Dementia is the term used to describe a range of conditions affecting the brain in the form of progressive neurological disorders. Alzheimer's disease is the most common and well known of these. Some patients will suffer from more than one type of Dementia and it is always unique in each person in the way it presents and develops. The impact of Dementia can be a physical one, psychological or emotional and can make it very difficult to perform daily tasks and to go about everyday life with ease and comfort.

Diagnosing Dementia

If you or a loved on has been experiencing certain problems relating to memory, have experienced a change in behaviour or suffered confusion it is important to consult with a GP at the earliest opportunity. The earlier a patient with Dementia can access advice and be given care options the more positive the impact can be of Dementia care.

An early and clear diagnosis can help a person suffering with memory loss or confusion to understand what is happening to them and why. It is also a great help to loved ones and family members as they can then seek the best route for treatment, support and care plans for the future. At this point you can begin to look into care financing, legal issues relating to the estate of the person with Dementia and any other decisions that are likely to be made in the near future.

Customer Feedback
Review from Homecare.co.uk - Delta Care Southport

My husband has had care from Delta for many years. He has a main carer who is fantastic with him and will be a great assist to me in the next few years. There are a few more who now know my husband and if his usual carer is on holiday I can ask for one of them to look after him. I can't thank Delta enough for the help I get from them.
